With the popularity of African Cichlids, the Synodontis isa fish that can live successfully in an African Cichlid tank. Although they can live with African Cichlids their reputation as an agressive species is often mis-stated. You can successfully keep several types with angels, gouramis, American cichlids and even tetras. The exception would be the three predatory species: S. acanthomias, S. notatus, and S. schal which are still not agressive fish, but will eat smaller fish.
